I've never been in physical combat. We all engage in spiritual combat everyday. My perception is that physical combat is intense in two ways. First you're in a life-and-death struggle. Second the spiritual forces involved are exponentially higher than in everyday life. Think about it, if you were Demons of Satan and angels of God where would you rather be? Sitting in some office listening to guys talk about their sexual exploits over the weekend, or on the battlefield looking into the souls of men and women.
